Body: Medium to Full Bodied
Taste: Floral, Spicy Lychee, Peach
Goes well with asian foods and spicy dishes
Gewurztraminer, or Gewurz as those familiar with the varietal call it, is a completely different animal. Unlike most other grapes, Gewurz wines are not very fruity, and instead exhibit an almost overpowering scent of flowers, spice and a bit of petrol. People either love it for its floral, spicy, almost oily character, or they loathe it for the exact same qualities.
Gewurztraminer is at its best in Alsace and Germany, but examples from Northern Italy, Chile, Hungary, and New Zealand are showing promise. If you're tired of the tried and true Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs of the world, give Gewurz a spin. It may not be for everyone, but at least you'll know, from the very first whiff, that you're tasting "something different".
You'll either love its floral, spicy, petrol smelling oily texture or you'll loathe it.
