Body: Medium to Full Bodied
Taste: Rich, dark fruit, berry, jam, spice
Hailing from the "Heel of Italy", Zinfandel really has found it's home in the sunbaked hills of California. Here you can find gnarled old vines, tanning in the California summer sun, creating massively powerful, rich wines. Massively fruity with healthy mix of spices tossed in, Zinfandel conjures up smells of dark fruit, jam, cloves and berries. When made seriously and with enough tannin, a good Zinfandel can command high prices and age for decades. But just like Merlot, Zinfandel is friendly enough to create fruity, low-cost wines perfect for everyday drinking.
Californial also creates several million bottles of what is known as "White Zinfandel". Really a rosé, White Zinfandel ranges from off-dry to sweet, and is one of the best selling wines in the US. The best White Zinfandels are light and fruity, best served chilled or even on ice for summer sipping.
